Introduction
Darbhanga division is an administrative and geographical unit of Bihar state, with the administrative headquarter of Darbhanga city. It is part of the historical Mithila region. This division consists of three districts: Darbhanga, Madhubani, and Samastipur.
This division is known for its rich cultural, historical and symbolic identity. Mithila culture, mango, makhana, fish and Madhubani (Mithila) painting are the main attractions here.
Administratively, all three districts of this division consist of various subdivisions and blocks.
Main Languages: Maithili, Hindi and Urdu are mainly spoken here.
Establishment and geographical location:
Darbhanga was separated from Tirhut division in 1875 and made a district, and later it was given the status of division. The total area of this division is approximately 2,279 square kilometers.
Cultural heritage:
Darbhanga is called the heart of Mithila. The region is deeply associated with ancient Indian epics such as ‘Ramayana’ and ‘Mahabharata’.
