    About the Division

    Darbhanga Division :
    Darbhanga division is an important administrative division of Bihar state, which is famous for its historical, cultural and educational identity. This division is mainly a part of the Mithila region and its culture is known all over the world.

    Formation and Structure :
    Darbhanga division was established in the year 1972. It comprises three districts – Darbhanga, Madhubani and Samastipur . The headquarter of the division is Darbhanga city , which is also known as the cultural and educational centre of Mithila.

    Geographical Location :
    Darbhanga division is located in North Bihar. It is bordered by Nepal in the north, river Ganges in the south, Purnia division in the east and Tirhut division in the west. This area is very fertile and most of the population here depends on agriculture.

    Language and Culture :
    The main language of this division is Maithili , which is also included in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution. The culture, tradition, folk songs and customs of Mithila are the identity of this region. Madhubani painting is a world-famous art here, which has also received recognition at the international level. Folk tales, folk dances and festivals further enrich the cultural diversity of this region.

    Education :
    DARBHANGA:

    Kameshwar Singh Darbhanga Sanskrit University (KSDSU) is a state university located at Darbhanga, Bihar, India, dedicated to the teaching and promotion of Sanskrit. Darbhanga has a variety of educational institutions, including the Lalit Narayan Mithila University (LNMU), which is a major public university affiliated with many colleges in the area like MLSM College and Chandradhari Mithila College (CM College). Other institutions include Darbhanga Medical College (DMCH), the College of Teacher Education (CTE) (affiliated with MANUU), and numerous private and government schools and colleges covering various fields from engineering to teacher training, such as the Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Women’s Institute of Technology and Mithila Minority Dental College. Darbhanga is also called the “Centre of Education”. In earlier times, Darbhanga was also called the “Oxford of Mithila” because it has been a major centre of education and learning.

    SAMASTIPUR:

    Samastipur has a variety of educational institutions, including universities like the Dr. Rajendra Prasad Central Agricultural University, colleges for arts,science, and commerces such as Samastipur College, Bali Ram Bhagat (B.R.B) college, Shri Ram Janki Medical College and Hospital, and Saryug College, and technical and professional schools like Kameshwar Narayan Singh Goverment Polytechnic and Goverment Engineering College. There are also numerous institutes for nursing, paramedical, teacher training, and commerce classes.

    MADHUBANI:

    Madhubani has a variety of educational institutions, including general colleges like J M D P L Mahila College and Jagdish Nandan College, and specialized institutions like the Government Engineering College, Madhubani, and the Madhubani Institute of Nursing and Paramedical Sciences. Other prominent colleges include B M College Rahika, CMB College, and Chethru Mahto Janta College.

    Economy :
    The economy of Darbhanga division is mainly agriculture based . Paddy, wheat, maize, sugarcane and pulses are mainly cultivated here. Apart from this, this region is a leader in Makhana production and is also called the “Home of Makhana”. Madhubani paintings and handicrafts also support the economy of this region.

    Mithila Milk Producer Cooperative Union Limited is becoming an example at the national level in the race of today’s competition. Samastipur, Darbhanga and Madhubani districts are defined under this, which are famous for cattle development work.

    Darbhanga Raj Fort – Historical fort of Darbhanga royal family.
    Shyama Mai Temple – Main religious place of Darbhanga.
    Vidyapati Nagar (Samastipur) – Place associated with the great poet Vidyapati.

    Darbhanga division is considered the center of Mithila culture . Its dialect, art, literature, temples, and educational institutions give it a special identity.
